Sometimes people message me through makexyz asking me to help them set up or fix their makerbots.
I've never taken them up on it, because that's not really what I do, but maybe it should be?
Do any of you guys do maintenance or set-up for money?

3D Printing is all about tweaking, they need to understand that it is not just one setting and let it go. If they are willing to pay, I say jump on it. Money is Money
To Vinnie's point. You may want to offer an educational service and show people what you've come to learn (min/max tolerances, settings based on both (a)type of plastic and (b)the part being made itself, etc..)
If you really plan on 'repairing' devices in the field you'll need to be prepared to have a fair bit of inventory on hand. Not just plastic parts but the motors, extruders, circuit boards, heated beds... the whole 9-yards. Services like this will eventually be in high demand but remember that YOUR customers are likely folks that lose money hourly by not having machines running. Keep in mind that if a Maker isn't HURTING by not having a working machine you're services won't be respected and you're likely not going to be making a profit.
The more things you do about 3D Printing the more it will help you to get jobs for 3D Printing.
