So far, my experience here has been overwhelmingly positive. Dozens of clients over the past couple years have yielded a lot of work, and most of them have been a pleasure to work with. However, I'm wondering if there's any recourse if a project is completed, invoiced, and not paid. The client, in this case, said to go ahead with a prototype. After completion, I sent an invoice, which he said he'd pay, but then didn't. This was a couple weeks ago.

It's not a large enough job to be worth taking legal action in this case, but I'm wondering if there's anything that MakeXYZ does about this sort of thing, such as banning a user from the service, flagging them as a warning for others, or sending outstanding bills to a collections agency.

in general, it's always a good idea to make sure the invoice is paid before you deliver/ship the parts.

n23d - I do not start work until invoice is paid. Most of the jobs have been small. I suppose a down payment plan would work well for a large expensive project. Some other sites I have used to get jobs the site provided escrow services. Escrow ( the use of an unbiased intermediary in a trans action) provides some assurance for both parties. The money is paid to the escrow company the supplier supplies product/service and the escrow company releases the funds. If the product is never delivered the payer gets money back. The supplier knows the money is there before they provide the product or service. If there is a dispute like payer says services or goods not delivered the escrow holds funds until it is resolved.

That's why it takes 11 days between payment and when I get paid out by makexyz, right?

yellowjester - Is it relatively easy to refund money within that time if the job can't be completed? For instance, if I'm not sure if something can be printed, and then determine that it can't, can a paid invoice be refunded? I'm generally pretty conservative in the jobs I take, so as to not put myself in a corner or disappoint if there are aspects of a job I think might not work on my machine.
