- So long as the dye is concentrated enough and the solvent isn't anything too nasty I'm pretty sure it'll be practical. Guess the trick is getting enough of the stuff onto the surface of the filament. Some kinda porous filament would be ideal, I suppose, or find the raw dye, dissolve it in whatever and fill up your own Sharpies. :-D

- Aww! Now I can't sleep! Got me thinking about how you could do this more effectively. If you run your filament through a piece of felt that has access to some kind of reservoir of liquid dye, it would work far better, especially if you use one of the dyestuffs made especially for plastics. Most of them don't seem to be soluble in anything nice like 1-Propanol but if you find the right one, it should work well. Now, find the dye. I'm off to bed! G'night! :-)
