Do the right thing.
How does one go about being polite and telling a potential customer that you do not appreciate them trying to do deals off site? One who goes as far as to spell out their phone number in a message and offers cash on delivery. Can one rate a customer and mark them as shady?

jezzmund - You can do the same as most of us - politely refuse while pointing them in the direction of MakeXYZ's terms and conditions.
I've had to explain that i'm not willing to bypass the protection offered to both buyer and seller on a number of occasions...
Mostly it's just people wanting to save themselves a few quid off the handling fee, I doubt any sort of customer rating system would stop that...

spencer - It's probably preaching to the choir, but there was a similar thread about this a few months back: http://www.makexyz.com/f/contact-outside-of-makexyz-7bc9fe493bbd35e284bfaaaae5b51bf8

augustaht - in my experience, most customers who want to pay cash are trying to protect themselves -- being unaware of the protection that makexyz offers, as @jezzmund said, to both buyers and sellers.

essentially, when they say: "i want to pay cash" they are saying "i dont want to give you my credit card or paypal payment until i know you aren't going to screw me".

so i just tell these customers that makexyz holds the payment from me for 11 days -- so neither of us is at any risk here.

and that usually works :) :)

geneb - I don't mind if they want to talk to me directly by phone or email, but I make them understand that I will only invoice through MakeXYZ.

thormj - OTOH, once a customer has paid -- unlock all communication. Trying to exchange phone numbers so we can meet at the same place at the same time gets to be radio-esque -- "six-seven-eight-oh"...

They paid, now let us talk line normal people!

nathan - @thormj, you can now exchange phone #s with the customer after the invoice is paid. :)

beekyosukethao - I realize that it helps the seller from flakers (wasted materials) and it helps the buyer in case of scam. It also prevents money from being handled at the scene which could lead to risk of danger.
