Gigabot review?
Have any of you had any hands on experience with the gigabot?

Do you think it's dependable? Is bigger better?

vinnie90 - When I first heard of it and the price I would have to say that I wanted it. However, the only thing I worry about is if the gantry bounces or vibrates since it spans a large distance. Also, I get warping prints on geometry that is 10" long and skinny. I would worry that pretty much any 3d part on the plateform that is large will most likely warp. I know PLA has a low warp % but when you print something huge it will increase in the shrink distance. I never heard anything good or bad about this machine. However, I am curious too see.

james_g - That's interesting. Thanks Vinnie!

I really like your point on warping.... that was one thing that I was worried about.

I feel like I don't even max out the build platform of my makergear even...... because when I try and print stuff beyond a certain footprint they inevitably get all warp speed.

vinnie90 - Yea, I feel more confident in my large models in printing multiple parts, gluing and welding, then bondoing if needed. This way my large part is one part, not warped, strong, and smooth.

I hope someone on here wants to talk about their machine though. I am really curious.

nyl0cke - The guys over at SeeMeCNC have made a 4' diameter 10' tall delta machine that prints PLA without warping issues. Of course it's a pellet driven design with something like a 5mm nozzle, but Steve doesn't have issues with warping from what I know. http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=61&t=2508

vinnie90 - Maybe the 5mm nozzle squirts out enough filament that when it cools it is strong enough to stop warping??

nyl0cke - I'm no materials engineer so I really can't say. It works, somehow... :P
