Seems like a lot of people need help getting started in all aspects of 3D printing. CAD design, material selection, printing settings, etc.

How can we help people get started with 3D printing?

I usually suggest tinkercad.com to get people started with CAD.

And I try to explain the tradeoffs of print settings like speed, resolution, infill. But are there more resources for this?

Maybe there should be a section of this forum dedicated to "getting started posts"

3dcgmodeler - Or If people need help than can ask a 3D Modeler, 10+ years, I offer help and assistance in 3D Modeling..

fabhappy - Tinkercad is a great start (I'm glad they got rescued and didn't shut down!). I think 123D Design is very similar, yet more powerful. But personally I have to use SCAD or a CAD software like SolidWorks or Alibre Design for most of my stuff. I like Alibre (now Cubify) because it's very affordable.

I think the settings are now simple enough (or maybe just hidden enough) that people can play around. You'll see how resolution and speed are inversely related. Same with infill... and infill % can affect possilbe warpage of your part as well. I'm just thankful to not have to mess with Skeinforge anymore!

rearle - It is very strange that people find this a problem, because our brain is very developed and can easily cope with this task. Many of us have different talents and these people are great leaders, artists, scientists, athletes, inventors whose abilities were so outstanding that people called them geniuses. It seems to me that you would be pleased if you were called one of the genius people and you need to go to this step by step.
