Just got back from doing some of the AT and I met a couple with odd footwear. The guy was wearing a pair of leather moccasins and his girlfriend was barefoot. Just to clarify they were backpacking with this footwear on purpose, it was not at a camp or a situation where they lost there real shoes. Being barefoot is a little too extream for me but I kind of want to try out backpacking in moccasins. I think it should be safe considering millions of native americans used them but that is just a guess.

Do you think this even a good idea? Have any of you guys done this or seen anyone else do this? If so what brand did you use or did you make your own?
