Level of Detail
What is the average level of detail for most of the makers on here? I'm looking to print 1/35th scale model accessories and custom configurations that are not supplied or are not readily available by some manufacturers around the world. Thank you!

elpulpo - Hey there,

What kinda size are the accessories and what level of detail do you need?

Cheers,

rdiamond - I guess I'm not sure the which or how many levels there actually are when printing. I guess a good example would be a rivet or bolt head on a 1/35th scale model, which could be around
0.5 mm. I know I've see some highly detailed items around the different 3D printing sites but with the individual maker, I'm guessing it would be different depending on the setup.

paeonius - thats really good at 0.01, plus 1 on seeing pics!

also you have to make sure you ask the printer who is doing your print what the xy dimensions are, most fdm printers use the standard 0.4mm nozzle which means that even thought the z dimension is 0.1mm the xy dimensions are usually 0.4mm, so its really important which way you orientate the file

jms3dprinting - Level of detail is misleading. Layer thickness can be really small but x,y dimensions are probably 0.5 mm or slightly less. So the orientation of print and what you consider to be the appearance surface if really important to know. I worked on a 1/72 scale part for a modeler and it was really pushing the art and could not produce the fine detail at all.

paeonius - +1 jms, allot of people forget about the xy resolution which is usually limited by the nozzle size!
DLP/SLA are probably the best bet if not SLS
