List filastruder/filabot?
It would be nice if users had the option to list filament extruders or grinders on MakeXYZ so that we could reclaim material instead of wasting it.

I don't have one but if there's enough demand in any one area it would make more sense for one or two people to get them than for everyone to get their own, as you wouldn't be using them all the time.

elpulpo - Good idea! I have an Extrusionbot that I'm in the end stages of building. If someone has some plastic that needs extruding into filament I'd be happy to give it a go and it would probably provide the incentive for me to complete the build. I've also ordered a Strooder...

...which should be delivered in October.

Worth mentioning that it's not recommended to extrude filament solely from 3D printing waste ( rafts etc ) without some quite high proportion of virgin material as the material does break down, to some extent, in the printing process. Maybe there's a market for a completely re-useable filament material?

vinnie90 - I wouldnt mind sending my waste to someone to send it back to me in a spool. At least to test it out and see if it works. I used to keep all my failed prints, but started to throw it away. I will start keep it from now on.

Also I dont mind paying for the "re-filamenting" of it. It just cant be close to a regular spool price.

angusgbishop - I have been thinking about this for a while, did a little research and found sweet FA.
Would it be possible to extrude LDPE from plastic bags etc?, It seems to be a thermoplastic, and I think I have seen printers mention that they can use the stuff.
If this was possible I think I would start giving away LDPE filiament for free, as plastic bags piss me off enough that anything I can do I will to help.

elpulpo - Certainly, the environmental impact of home recycling of thermoplastic materials could be massive but I would have thought the less "waxy" plastics would be the first target, and especially PET. I can't wait to start recycling those fluorescent acid green Mountain Dew bottles into cool things!

vinnie90: I'll be starting at a proportion of 75% virgin to 25% recycled waste, which would allow me to re-sell at around $10-12 per Pound, plus spool, shipping etc. One of the most exciting possibilities would be the opportunity to supply custom and matched colours of filament in return for waste.
