Moving company insolvency - what now?
Hi, everybody,
I have an urgent question. I just recently moved from the Netherlands to Australia, and my goods were delivered through Relocalty (a German company). The items were collected in mid-May, arrived in Sydney on September 2 and are now already in Melbourne, where I live.
HOWEVER! The moving company declared insolvency on October 14, and the Australian company moved my things from Sydney to Melbourne (which were supposed to arrive to me on October 14), informed us that there was a delay in delivery, and now will not give us our things if we do not pay them for moving from Sydney, because they claim that they were not paid for moving.
My question is, if we have already paid everything, and they went bankrupt just a week ago, therefore, on the day when another moving company was supposed to deliver our things, is it legal that they are asking us to pay them now? So what do we do now?
The move contacted the company in Sydney, but not us. Other customers have received a direct email from them, which makes me think that they would have also sent us an email if the payment for our shipment had not been paid.

anncheins1 - I think it is some fraud. No one can detain the things if the client claims that he made the payment. According to the law, they must return your stuff to you in such a situation and only then figure out which of you is to blame. It would be better to use other transportation services, but I understand how difficult it is to find a suitable service where you will not be deceived. When I bought a new home, our family started looking for a moving service with excellent and honest reviews. So we found the guys from https://appromoving.com/. I was delighted that they worked very carefully with the furniture, and the attitude, in general, was excellent. So I hope you will solve this problem, the main thing is not to follow the lead of scammers

james133 - Hello, of course you can ask one of your friends, but I would recommend you to contact a service that organizes transfers. I have contacted such a service several times at https://californiamoversusa.com/moving-services/cheap-movers-near-me/ . If you have a large volume of work, you should get a good discount. These guys will do everything for you, in which case you can avoid wasting extra time.

mark079 - I had a similar situation when I moved to another country and I needed to transport quite a lot of things. At that time I did not know which service to use but my friend advised me to contact the customer service at https://sunpass.pissedconsumer.com/customer-service.html as he used their services for cargo transportation several times. I consulted with them about the number of things that need to be translated and they got it all done pretty quickly.

buddha - I am sorry to hear about your situation. It sounds like a frustrating and stressful experience. Unfortunately, as an Golden Tape Movers LLC employee (https://goldentapemovers.com/), I am not able to offer legal advice, but I can recommend seeking legal assistance and speaking to consumer protection agencies in Australia. Additionally, it might be worth contacting Relocalty and the Australian moving company to see if there is any way to resolve the payment issue and receive your goods without paying again. I hope this helps, and I wish you the best of luck in resolving this matter.
