I have added an image to my Profile to advertise NFC tags inside 3D printed objects.

I have used NFC tags embedded in prints for many different applications and I have some great ideas for future projects. The tags are cheap and survive the temperature of the printing process. The limitations are that of memory per tag and that of NFC adoption in phones... currently apple is not on board for open use. I would love to hear feedback, similar efforts or ideas for applications.

Some applications I've played with:

A print of a scan of my friend as she recorded a Johnny Cash cover... the embedded tag is linked to the recording on her reverbnation profile.

A turntable model with matching records for a DJ. Each record had a tag linked to different tracks from his site. (this one got me thinking of a 3D printed turntable style phone case that one could place mini records on to bring up a song... silly idea but fun)

Keychains linked to sites to promote a Radio Show, Real Estate Agent and Sports Therapy Professional

A "ON AIR" table top sign for a radio show with an embedded tag programmed to change the phone state to silent mode.

Lanyard flair linked to My Service Sites and Community Profiles

I printed a model of a floppy disc with a tag embedded.... it is a data storage art piece of sorts.

elpulpo - Great ideas Atom! I've seen the odd design on Thingiverse with provision for NFC but haven't had the time to think things through. That, and the fact that I'm on my 4th iPhone, I suppose. BTW, of course iPhones don't support NFC; Apple can't claim to have invented the idea! LOL. Well, now, thanks to you, I'm more or less up to speed on NFC and, as Hedley Lamarr so eloquently put it: My mind is aglow with whirling, transient nodes of thought careening through a cosmic vapour of invention. :-D

First thought. Wouldn't it be cool to integrate into this...

necf - tried a couple places... no difference really, one had their own app environment. tagstand.com was the last place and probably reorder soon. I've been using Samsung TecTile to program, but I want to play with an arduino NFC shield because I see some stuff down the road that could effect games like Ingress, Geocaching or LARP in general.

Have you attempted pausing midprint to insert a tag?

necf - raykholo, you need a special iPhone case just to add the capability of an open use NFC antenna.
I have attempted pause and insert and have better result just slipping in the tag at the beginning of a layer. No pause needed and no risk of a blob caused by pause.
