Need silicone molds of cylinder head ports scanned.
Title says it all pretty much. They are about the size of a banana and made of fairly stiff silicone. Not sure exactly what kind of surface..might be a little translucent or a little shiny. An amateur with a home built scanner (rotating plate with lasers) might actually be able to do a good enough job.

I will be posting my molding and scanning experience on a very popular dodge forum so you will get lots of free advertising! Very few threads out there show an end to end process of molding and scanning cylinder head ports, its an emerging thing!

Heres an example:

Thank you!

midgett.tech -
I have a 3D scanner, a kinect with Skanect software, paid license. I would like the opportunity to scan your object. We charge $25 an hour and can do full color scans.

acannell - Thanks! I dont think Skanect would have the resolution I need. I think I need lasers or HQ structured light, even if its hobbyist. Something with 0.020" or better accuracy

elpulpo - That's an interesting project, Asa. You can actually SEE what you're paying for when you buy Edelbrock - Well, I guess you can see black stripes on your driveway too, but I think you know what I mean! :-)

A Kinect with Skanect might be about enough, so long as it's been fitted with lenses to reduce its focal length but I think you're right. Something like a David SLS would do a good enough job for you or even the David laser scan starter kit. What do people do once they have the port digitised?

I've been mulling over acquiring a David SLS for a while and would be willing to consider investing in a rig if there's sufficient demand.

Cheers!

acannell - Hmm interesting. Okay midgett.tech then maybe a scanect will work! could you try scanning a banana and send me the model?

Once I have a model of the port, I can make a toolpath for it in Camworks and machine the port to reshape it for better flow.

midgett.tech - Alright, I will bring a banana home from work tomorrow and scan it in. Will email you with the results. I have had good luck with it, It is not a hacked Kinect, it is the official Kinect for Windows. Just means it comes with an adapter for better connectivity. I will be purchasing a Kinect V2 soon and they get a lot closer to the resolution you are looking for. Much better sensors

eugene3 - I have an EinScan SE scanner that scans an object, projecting a sequence of white light rays onto an object, while the cameras, in turn, pick up all the irregularities on the surface of the scanned object and create a 3D model in the 3D scanner software online. I use it for creating projects for my homework assignments at university, you'll find them on https://writingcheap.com/
