elpulpo - Hey there Marco,

That's a great portfolio you have there! How much do you charge for the iPhone cover? I'm not sure I can live without it! :-D

Cheers!

Andy

marcovalenzuela.com - $88 for a print of the Skull iPhone 5 cover, shipping included.

elpulpo - Wow! That's around 3 times the price of an European case, printed and shipped. Now, while I do appreciate your design skills, Marco, when it comes to a 3X difference, the head overrules the heart. :-(

Is there something I overlooked? Gold plating, for instance?? :-D

marcovalenzuela.com - I 3d print them with a high-end industrial printer, not a makerbot or re-rap. I choose to profit from my artwork, beyond the material costs, like most artist.

elpulpo - Well, of course, that's your prerogative, Marco. However.....

Worth just noting that both the (professional) artist AND shape ways are presumably making a profit at that price.

elpulpo - Could I just ask, which printer do you use and how you come to the comparison with a RepRap. Have you printed at RepRap in the past?

marcovalenzuela.com - I use a professional Fortus 250mc. Rep-raps are hobbyist level machines.

elpulpo - So, you're using a $44,000 printer. Something tells me it's not sitting in a shed at the bottom of your garden, Marco.

"Hobbyist level machines" as you, so disparagingly refer to them, are capable of producing really good results in the right hands. I suggest you buy one and find out. :-)

Unless I'm very much mistaken, MAKE XYZ is a portal for MAKERS. i.e. people who MAKE stuff, and not DESIGNERS who get someone else to make their stuff for them. I wish you the best of luck on MakeXYZ. After all, we could use someone to slow down price erosion.

rapidtechnician - Good Job Marco and welcome. Glad to see you using in industrial printer rather than a DIY glue gun style printer. I have been in the 3D printing industry for about 16 years and have built hundreds of thousands of parts and have not seen one customer that likes layer lines in there parts. MakeXYZ is a place were Users or owners with machines connect with the customer or designers to build parts period. As for the price Erosion it is coming from the DIY printers charging such a low price for parts that are not even worth it. Good luck to you.....

elpulpo - LOL! Nice one rapidtechnician. I imagine that horse saddle makers spoke in equally disparaging terms when their jobs were at threat from the Model T! :-D

elpulpo - Hey Marco. I see you've published a couple of your designs on Thingiverse. Well done! Suggest you mention in the text that you also sell copies of the designs printed on a Fortus 250mc and include a link to your profile on MakeXYZ. I hope your designs bring you the fame your talent deserves. I'm proud of ya, Man. :-D
