Hi
Has anyone set up a 5th gen Makerbot to run on different substrates.
Examples:
PLA using one of the quick change extruders.
ABS using another quick change extruder.
Nylon using yet another extruder.

The general idea here is to see if I would be able to run
all of these types of material on One Makerbot Replicator Machine.

kstichno - Yes, I did exactly that. ABS works great, as does PLA. I haven't gotten very good results with nylon yet. I had to mod the build plate, adding a heater, and enclose the sides with plexiglass for the ABS process, but with doing this warping is almost nonexistent and skrinkage is minimal (less than 1%).

Do you suppose that making an offset siloette of the part that's printing say about
0.8mm wide would help keep temperatures on your parts more consistent as they were building?
I'm also curious as to what your results with nylon were.
Could you elaborate?

kstichno - It is possible, but the first action I took upon receiving my tool was to add in the plexiglass skins, and am getting consistent build temps.

As far as nylon, I've only tried taulman bridge nylon. To get an acceptable print I would need to use print speed of ~10 mm/s with an extruder temp of 245 C, and had to overextrude by roughly 30%. I think one major issue had to do with filiment slipping within the feed gear of the smart extruder. I also had issues with retraction, too much and it led to clogging, not enough and it led to stringy prints. I'm sure with enough fine tuning all of the issues could be worked out, but I mainly print in ABS so I haven't spent too much time working on it.

The guy that currently does my 3D printing for me is very good.
I'm not good enough with my design procedures or designing parts that
I would possibly be able to make $$ with to make the investment.
I keep looking at facts and opinions in my quest.
