Ordered 3 months ago, still not received my item, what's going on?
I ordered a 3D print 3 months ago, but I have still nothing arrived at my address. Is this normal?

yellowjester - Hi, I'm not actually involved with running this site, but am registered with it as an independent contractor. A few months ago, MakeXYZ tried a system in which customers, rather than being given a list of 3D printer operators in their area who could be contacted for consultation, were instead directed to upload models into an automated system, which contractors could then choose from existing jobs to fill at our discretion.

Due to automated systems lacking any ability to determine feasibility of print jobs, most of these job offerings were impossibly underpriced and/or not possible to print, so none of us (who are, again, independent contractors not directly affiliated with MakeXYZ) were willing or able to fulfill them. Am I correct in assuming that you submitted a job to this automated system, rather than contacting a maker directly for a consultation?

If that's the case (or if it's not, and you were in contact with a maker who's simply failed to respond), feel free to send me a message, and I'd be happy to take a look at your job and give you a consultation/estimate.

isaachd - Do you mean the part on the front page that you upload to because that's where I bought it

yellowjester - Yeah, as far as I know, all that does is upload it to the "open jobs" list, where it's up to us to find it and choose to fulfill it. When this feature was first rolled out, most of us took a look at the automatically generated prices/requirements and wrote them off as being unrealistic or too risky (like needing a 1-day turnaround on a 20 hour print, where a single print failure would push us over the deadline).

Prior to the "upload for an instant quote" feature, clients would be given a list of makers and choose one to work with based on reviews, profile, and general price overview. It doesn't have the instant satisfaction of placing an order, but it's a necessary process for most print jobs, as 3D printing isn't nearly as "push a button, start the print" process as regular printing is.

Consulting with a maker can still be done with the "Find 3D Printers" menu, but it's not the obvious default anymore.

yellowjester - You had to pay up front? I'm not sure, but my guess would be to send an email to Nathan@makexyz.com

jeepguy42 - Hey be aware I can't upload files to any Person through the site anymore. I click on two people I've used locally several times before the update and I get mixed results. For one if I click start project (contact "Printers Name") it takes me to the main MakeXYZ home page but with /o/"Printers Name" which isn't the form to actually start a project with them. For the other I click on Start a Project and it brings me to the correct page but files don't upload. I've tried 3 different computers and each time, I click upload and no files upload so I can't send anything to them to begin a project.

Also the price for the 5 files I'm trying to have printed when I do the math using their price per cm^3 would be 3X less than the automated system gives me. Since I need these parts printed in order to fix my printer I had to use the default upload files on the main page. (cost for the cheapest, closest is $25.30 before shipping while the automated system charged me $78.50 with a free expedited shipping added for delivery Friday). By the sounds of this, I'm hoping I actually receive my parts but they really need to fix the site as I'd prefer to use the two printers locally who I've had good results with.
