In 2013, former model and restauranteur, Barbara Smith, aka B. Smith, was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease and since then her husband of 27 years, Dan Gasby, a former TV executive, has been caring for her. In 2016, the couple wrote a book about the early stages of Alzheimer’s titled "Before I Forget: Love, Hope, Help, and Acceptance in Our Fight Against Alzheimer's." Since then, B., 69, has steadily declined. While Gasby, 64, has been caring for B. he started dating 53-year-old Alex Lerner and received criticism from many of B.’s fans.

I've just seen Dan & Alex interviewed on This Morning and I really felt for them and B. I don't have any experience with Alzheimer's so I can't begin to imagine how isolating it must be.

Dan still has lots of love for his wife, acts as her carer & says he will continue to do so. However some people feel it's disrespectful to B for him to have a relationship with Alex.

I personally don't feel this way. I have lots of sympathy for all of them and wish them all contentment and happiness.
