Provider Selling Supplements Question
So I recently started a new job working at FP. I'm still in the process of building my patient base, but in the last week or so I've had several new patients who have undergone treatment from the same previous PCP, and they all have similar complaints about their previous PCP. In fact, he started selling supplements from his office and "prescribing" these supplements to patients - he doesn't seem to be making outlandish claims about cancer treatment or anything else. Patients doubted whether they needed these products, and also found them expensive - and, of course, they are not covered by insurance. As a result, they transferred their care to others.

My question is: do you think this is a conflict of interest?

I'm just curious about the general opinion that the practice seems to be becoming more common - in my experience, it's almost universally used in dermatology for skin care products, etc., but it seems to be spreading to other areas of medicine. I appreciated the new patients who helped me build my "business", but so far they have all been relatively well-educated people who are looking for help rather than telling me what they want...the type of patient we all dream of! I am not one of those who believe that vitamins are necessary for the general population, and I am aware of studies showing that regular vitamin supplements are actually potentially harmful... but there may be exceptions. And, although glucosamine/chondroitin ended up being pretty useless, as I understand it...I'm probably a jerk who fell victim to the placebo effect, but I feel that taking it helps my joints - for a long time I was an athlete in college and continued to do powerlifting and coaching wrestling.

rebeccakerr - I absolutely agree with you, it's a pity that few people know that if you just take vitamins, it can lead to serious diseases

harrydavidson701l3 - I think that doctors should not be engaged in marketing, it is not appropriate for a doctor to engage in personal business in a medical gown

kassadi - And as an expert in this matter, do you also think that supplements can be taken without consulting a doctor? I want to start taking a course of vitamins, but I'm not sure if it's worth doing before I go to the doctor. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if vitamins are dangerous to take without taking tests. My friend advised me not to wait for a doctor's appointment and order supplements on the website https://rats.army/, since he constantly orders supplements for his mother there and they are satisfied with the quality of their products. I hope that someone will answer my question. Thank you all for the answers in advance

milania - And it seems to me that people have not prescribed vitamins for themselves for a long time. It is important to clearly understand that any supplements are prescribed depending on the results of your tests, and only by a doctor. danielpeter - Vitamins are damn important for leading a healthy life also without vitamin one cannot able to lead a healthy life. For in taking vitamins as a supplement, it should be done under the advice of experts. Lack of awareness about vitamin and its intake without the advice of experts leads heavy side effects based on the supplement intakes and here https://nehealthcareworkforce.org the expert advice or guidance with lots of experience gained by them.

pambdilley - Liv Pure Reviews – One’s metabolic rate has a role in both weight growth and reduction. Addiction to food, family history, way of life, medicines, and other factors all have a role in the development of obesity. Heart, liver, and renal problems are just some of the many that may be brought on by obesity. If your liver isn’t working properly, you won’t burn many calories.
