MakeXYZ as a site IS free. It's the services people want from us printers that cost money.. and that is where MakeXYZ makes there $$.
In your world of "open everything" who buys the material?
Who pays my energy bill?
Who feeds me lunch after slaving over your free items all day?
As a Free Software Developer... just develop it yourself.. for free ; )
Free software does not require swearing some oath of fealty to not making money, it meerly allows the users of thsi site to set up their own if the group providing the site went away, and allow for adding features by the community. for instance, have you noticed there is no mechanism for removing or editing "your" post, or temporarilly disabling listing of your printing services. and what about the user asking for lasercutter support?
Free services are not free. you are the product. and while i'm OK enough with that, i'm not OK sending my customers to a site running non-free software.
I'm not going to bother responding to all of the questions in your posting. its an interesting juxtaposition seeing you complain about professionalism in one post, then posting a hate-filled troll such as this. don't YOU wish you could delete that post now?
