If my profile is already coming up at the top of searches for my area, are there any add benefits to this? Does anyone use this feature and see more traffic that leads to billings, leading to more profit?

- That's what I'm thinking. There aren't enough people in our area yet for this to be worth additional $$$. If it helped expand my services past searching by zip code, that be nice. There are 3 zip codes (that I know of) in the 4 square miles of our town.

you can pay Google to be on top of the page and have a sponsored icon. however, research shows that people mainly click 93% of the time on the first non-sponsored search.

- Nathan doesn't strike me as the kind of guy who'd try to wring the absolute maximum out of his potential profit from MakeXYZ so I can only think that the idea has been arrived at as a solution to a problem. The only problem I can think of is that MakeXYZ isn't currently paying for itself. I value the opportunity to showcase my services and products on MakeXYZ and would be very unhappy if the site were to fold but, like many others, I'm at the head of my local page so there's no benefit for me to sponsor my profile. BUT, I think there are services that MakeXYZ could offer that I would be prepared to pay for. Maybe we should start another thread to discuss that?

- this is great stuff. for clarity, our goals in testing out sponsored are:
* give awesome and dedicated makers an opportunity to increase their biz (more traffic to awesome/dedicated makers helps people make stuff)
* give new makers in a geo an opportunity to get into the mix (a larger, more diverse community of makers helps people make stuff)
as I'm sure you've heard me say before, chad and i have one goal w/ makexyz: help people make stuff. and that's our goal in testing sponsored listings too.
