In The Financial Times they indicated a few hours ago that Spotify is negotiating with SoundCloud to make a possible purchase, a news that has made a lot of noise in the sector, although it has not yet been confirmed by any of the parties involved.

Without a doubt, Spotify would be able to find the business model that SoundCloud does not have, and it would be a good complement to its current service, since it would include a huge database of users and a tremendous amount of music from less famous groups, as well as podcasts.


SoundCloud has not reported user numbers for two years (175 million in 2014, but they did not indicate if they are registered users), and it seems to have stagnated both in revenue and content. He was already negotiating with Twitter a possible purchase some time ago, but apparently it was only a pleasant chat, no real intention of acquisition. It currently offers 125 million songs, far more than Spotify's 30 million. as there are mixes and audio tracks that cannot really be classified as "music", but it is still very attractive content for any web company.

At the moment there is nothing defined, but if the purchase is made, Spotify will be able to overtake its competition with a truly impressive variety of content and users, although it is possible that many of those users will leave SoundCloud when they see that it has become "one plus".
