This job made me feel alright...
175 yr old Ivory Chess pieces, bought at auction in the 60's from the Carrington House in RI, needed replacing. We scanned the opposite color pieces with another user's David Scanner and I 3D printed them on my Rep1. Acetone vapor bath treatment was performed for the customer's planned matching paint job.
For an affordable price we resurrected a family heirloom and made sure the animal's death that provided the Ivory was not a total waste.

elpulpo - What an excellent application of 3D scan&print technology! Did the drawing come from the scanner or was the scanned image produce measurements for the drawing?

necf - I think the dimensions came from solidworks and reference markers used in scan. The scanning was done by http://www.makexyz.com/printer/bone because my Kinect would have been too low rez.

bone - I scanned one side of each piece and used the mesh as a reference. The mesh was imported into SW, where I sketched the profile of each piece. Some of the profile were complex curves, so I used the mesh to help constraint spline curves and other geometry. A few revolve features and export to a STL, we had some printed parts.
