- My father had diabetes for a long time. He always tried to lower his blood sugar by drinking alcohol. But he also chose unsweetened drinks that would stop the sharp rise in sugar levels after a meal. As a result, he had to go to an online alcohol support group -- https://www.theluckiestclub.com/join-community. Sweet alcoholic drinks raise sugar levels but slowly. This causes insulin release in the blood, but people with diabetes take sugar-lowering pills to keep it in check. I would not recommend alcohol for this purpose, as there is no benefit other than keeping sugars in the normal range.
