water/air tightness
For most of the printer types, do they print water/air tight parts? If not I have some ideas that could make them water tight. I'm thinking of some small low pressure components pumps. I would like to reach my kids about pressure with parts they can handle and use.

raykholo - FDM prints - not so much.

SLA prints - very possibly. Search for materials --> resin. A lot of guys on here have Form1 Printers, could give that a shot.

vinnie90 - I agree with Ray. FDM could work, but other factors like material, operator, and actual parts geometry will come into affect. This will determine if it will work or not. Cant really tell until test it. However, the SLA prints are almost guaranteed to work.

elpulpo - I'd say that vapour-smoothed ABS parts would be water tight and air tight for low pressures. If there's slight porosity, they'd be easy enough to seal. What kind of component do you have in mind?

ajdowdell - I'm thinking about some little pumps, check valves, etc. Something that kids could play with some pressure and understand some basic flow stuff. Turning water wheels, maybe some nozzle stuff, understand flow velocity versus flow volume

ajdowdell - Basically a water gun with modular components that replaceable with other components. thinking standard quick lock tubing and 1/4 or 1/8 in npt fittings for easy connections

ajdowdell - Surely some printed parts would be cheaper than their metal counter parts

elpulpo - Certainly would. Apart from the fittings, that is.
