Can someone answer me this vexing question...

Photoshop is to Bitmaps, as "______" is to Meshes?

Meshlab, Netfabb, Meshmixer, other?
Need to selectively fill holes, make revisions, do mashups, and edit mesh files and scans. Any guidance from you all would be appreciated.

n23d - Zbrush not free however it is quite powerful for sculpture type work. Not so good for cad type stuff. Rhino3D is good for CAD and has some mesh editing capability a little hard to use to do extensive stuff. A plugin is available that creates editable surfaces from meshes or point clouds. If you are doing mechanical type stuff you should be working with surfaces not meshes.

danoperl - Organic forms, nature stuff. I think these are best suited to MeshLab & Meshmixer.

elpulpo - My answer: Yes! :-D

Far as I'm concerned, you can probably do it all with Meshlab if you're prepared to learn all the knobs and whistles. Selective hole filling is pretty straightforward with Netfabb and mashups? Well, Meshmixer is my go-to application.

danoperl - After a day of experimenting with all the options out there the recipe is as follows... a dash of MeshLab with a sprinkle of Netfabb, then heavy on the Meshmixer! Thanks for the help all.

bone - I should give Meshmixer a try then. I use Meshlab for aligning and smoothing right now. I found Blender to be a steep learning curve. Is Meshmixer easy to learn?
