The original metal grid of my Makerbot Replicator are mounted at one side of the fan with another side free in the air. They generate a low frequency "hum" due to the free ends and the elasticity of the metal. This honey comb grid was produced targeting the elimination of the low frequency hum and give it a cool look. This honey comb grid will generate a higher pitch sound. Due to increased blockage, it will reduce the cooling effectiveness so a higher flow rate fan may be considered to go with it. It is optimized for 0.4 mm nozzle, with most structures of the honey comb being 0.8mm.
