sort of working model of an old portable sundial The "all" file is and assemble stl it is not meant to be printed but is there for you to see what the assemble sundial looks like. print out 1 each of outerring innerring bridge and hanger 2 copies of peephole and 3 copies of pivot. the hanger should snap onto the outside of the outer ring. put the inner ring inside the outerring with the pivot holes lined up push two of the pivots into the holes in the inner ring they should push through and into the holes in the outer ring allowing the in ring to swing out 90 degrees before it hits the stops. Push the remaining pivot into the hole in the end of the bridge until it is flush, fit the end with the built in pivot into the hole on one of the supports on the outer ring you should be able to use a small screwdriver or similar tool to push the pivot you fitted to the bridge into the hole in the other support. final part of the assembly is to fit the two peephole parts these should push together with so they fit into the bridge and slide up and down. there are marks on the outer ring every 5 degrees and 24 marks round the iner ring I was not able to produce readable engraving on these two pieces. the bridge has letters corresponding to the months of the year. To read the dial first set it for you latitude by moving the hanger round the outer ring 90 degrees ( the north pole) would be with the hanger in line with the brige and 0 degrees ( the equator) would be with the haner lined up with the pivots on the inner ring. move the peephole until the letter corresponding to the month is covered. hang the dial by the hanger you will need to twist the bridge and turn the hole dial until the sun shines through the peephole and hits the inside of the inner ring (there is a indented line on the inerring to help get it central) then count of the tine on the inter ring 6 O'clock would be at the point the ring pivots (both morning and evening) midday is at right angles to this. I have found I could get the time to within about half an hour with practice. Edit changed the oriatation of the peephole file to make printing easer. edit run all the file through Netfabb since some people reported problems slicesing the parts
