Wand created for a birthday gift for a Harry Potter fan. It has space in the handle for 2x AAA batteries and a 3v 5mm LED fits nicely in the tip to allow many hours of Lumos spells!Sketchup file contains work-in-progress models, as well as the simplification I had to do since my printer couldn't capture all the fine details accurately.Model has been split to fit my tiny printbed - there's nothing larger than about 90mm. It can be glued together, but tolerance is pretty tight for batteries + wires + switch, so feel free to enlarge the model a little to make it an easier fit.Circuit: 2x AAA batteries provide 3v which is fine to drive a 5mm LED with a simple switch at the top of the handle to make it go on and off.Finishing: The model was glued together with Bostik 5 minute epoxy which held well on the PLA. It was then coated with a couple of light coats of plastic primer, and then rubbed with Daler-Rowney Goldfinger (antique gold). Finally it was painted with acrylic black paint and rubbed-back when the acrylic was still wet to give an antiqued-gold appearence.Random note for Potter Fans: To symbolise the bond between the friends in the books, JK Rowling based the wood for Harry, Ron & Hermione's wands off their birthdates in the Celtic calendar (which has a wood associated with each month of birth). The recipient for this wand was born in November, so the decorations are based on the Celtic wood for November which happens to be "Reed" AKA Scottish Broom.Disclaimer: this is a fan project inspired by the world J.K. Rowling created. Harry Potter is TM J.K. Rowling 2012. Go read the books, they're fantastic. Harry Potter motion picture © and TM Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc.
