This handy sensor mount was built by one of my Computer Programming & Robotics students at George School, Duc "Scott" Hoang in 2013-14. He designed it to fit a Sharp infrared or a SR04 Ultrasonic range finder, as shown in the images. The sensor was specifically designed for the Mouse robot by Robodyssey Systems (http://www.robodyssey.com) You can see it in action here: http://roboticp2014.blogspot.com/. The sensor mount is put together with two 4-40 screws (3/8" long), so you will either need to tap the holes or use self-tapping screws. Tapping also needs to be considered to secure the sensors to Scott's mount. The Sharp IR sensor needs two 4-40 screws (1/4" long) and the SR04 Ultrasonic sensor requires two smaller 2-56 screws (3/8" long). Although in a bind you can use a rubber band to secure the sensors to the mount, as shown in the images. The mount incorporates three mounting holes to give the user a great deal of flexibility. When using the first hole, Scott added a radius cut that matches the circular chassis of the Mouse robot. Therefore, only one screw is required to rigidly affix it to the robot body. In this position the sensor cannot be rotated. Using the other two mounting holes, however, the sensor can be positioned to just about any look-angle desired, but friction is the only thing preventing the sensor from being bumped out of position. Scott also created a servomotor attachment so his sensor mount can connect directly a servomotor (see Hoang-ServoFit-v2.stl). Also included in this second file is a mount that can be used to attach the servo to the Mouse robot, as shown in the pictures in the Gallery.Printing in low resolution (0.3mm/layer) with 10% infill works just fine. You will need to use screws to secure the pieces. See the description for more details.
