Support Hong Kong's Umbrella Revolution Brief introduction of umbrella revolution (from wiki): In September 2014, pro-democracy campaigners in Hong Kong protested outside the government headquarters and occupied several major throughfares to protest against the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress' decision on proposed electoral reform which ruled out genuine democracy for the forthcoming 2017 Hong Kong Chief Executive election. The name Umbrella Revolution was possibly first used by Twitter user @Aureliano_no_24 on September 26 to describe the Hong Kong protest and has been used by many sources since a large number of protestors used umbrellas to defend themselves from pepper spray and tear gas.[2][3][4][5][6] Student groups Hong Kong Federation of Students and Scholarism began protesting outside the government headquarters in the week of 22 September 2014.[7] In the evening of 26 September, a group of several hundred demonstrators breached a security barrier and entered the plaza in front of the Central Government Complex, which has been barred from public entry since 2014 following "security concerns". They soon were cordoned off by police and blockaded overnight, which caused more protestors to join the protest and surround the police. This led to a stand-off which lasted over a day, during which police attacked unarmed protesters with shields, batons, and pepper spray. Occupy Central with Love and Peace announced that they would begin their civil disobedience campaign with immediate effect.[8] Around noon on 28 September, protesters spilled onto Harcourt Road and proceeded to occupy Queensway as well, blocking both east-west arterial routes on northern Hong Kong Island. After several hours of stand-off, police dispersed the crowds with tear gas and water cannons, and threatened to open fire with rubber bullets if crowds did not leave the scene.
