Add some personality to your table with a pair of acorn-shaped salt & pepper shakers. It's almost a no-brainer that the salt shaker be printed in white and the pepper in black. But we're more imaginative than that. And who says the top and bottom need to be the same color. Shake it up and have fun with it. Each shaker consumes about 15 grams of filament in just over an hour. So you could print a bunch for different occasions, for gifts or just to squirrel away. Want to learn how to create designs like this one? An Inventor Studios Tinkercad tutorial walks you through this design. Follow the entire collection to develop and refine your modeling skills. Update: Added STL's for just the bottom, just the top, and the top with an internal support -- because global supports generated by slicers can ruin the threads.I've printed shakers in both PLA and ABS without a hitch. The top requires that a raft be used, though supports are optional. My experience on other projects has shown me that Slic3r isn't always able to print screw threads very well. If you are have to use Slic3r and ABS I'd encourage you to lay out 2 or more shakers in a single job so that each layer has sufficient time to cool before the next is laid down. A special callout to Formatize for sharing the original acorn design. Brilliant!
