I never expected my office to smell like a wood shop with the scent of freshly cut pine in the air, but that is exactly what happened today, thanks to the fine folks at colorfabb and, to honor the occasion, I tweaked the Pregnant Woman model to better suit the medium, mostly through giving it a thicker body. The picture fails to do her justice: in person this looks like it has been carved or cut from wood, not extruded from a 3d printer. The texture and general feel proclaim it as a wooden object. Even the layering somehow seems a natural part of the piece. The most successful prints with the wood filament have been at 220 degrees. I have done both 0.2mm and 0.3mm layers and with 10% and 100% fill. I prefer the 100% fill, but the others have been fine. The main issue has been build up of filament on the nozzle. In this particular print it clumped, burned a bit, and fell onto the model. Luckily, I was able to snake it out with a tool before the print head got in the way. I've tried varying temperature and speed, but so far I have been unsuccessful in eliminating the issue.
