This is my BI V2.5 Pico conversion aka the "The Batman Kit". This retrofit don't include a height adjustment for the nozzle. Contrary to the BI J-Head, the dimension of the Pico is amazingly accurate. For the same nozzles diameter, I get the same length as far as my caliper can measure. Anyway, the original hotend, with an o-ring, was flimsy (mine at least). With this conversion, there is no need to ream or dremel the plate's holes. Use what is already there. I've included the SolidWorks files so you can adjust the parts for your printer.(for 1 Pico) 1 x Pico (1.75mm, Bowden Groovemount, 12V heater, optional 500°C Thermistor) 1 x 40mm Fan (came with the Pico from KS) 1 x M3x20mm screw 1 x M3 Nyloc nut 4 x M3x10mm screw 1 x 2 pair wire (for the fan), from top to effector 1 x Molex Mini-Fit Jr.™ Power Connectors w/ pins for the Pico cooler fan (56H7743/88C9490) 1 x set of Molex SL™ Modular Connectors w/ pins for the Pico cooler fan (89C1698/38C9863/97B0029/08P0700) 1 x printed batman kit (ABS) 1 x printed fan shroud (ABS) Optional: If you install more than one Pico, you'll need to buy Molex connectors accordingly. Also, if you want to cool the extruder motors with my EZStruder Mount for BI V2.5, you'll need these connectors to build a Y cable at the top: 38C9709/90B6898. *The parts number above are for the Newark reseller. You can find actual manufacturer (Molex) parts number looking at the Newark pages. All parts MUST be printed in ABS. There is serious heat around Pico. For best result, print at 0.2mm layer height, 100% infill. The bats height is critical, they must fit tightly. You need to remove the outer shrink from the Pico wires, this is needed to install the fan shroud. Take extreme care when un-heatshrinking the thermistor's wires. Mine was twisted at the base of the thermistor, I've to remove the spring and redo the soldering (it was crimped, this is the first batch of the KS campaign). There was a short-circuit there. You simply slide the bats like this: Note the small cut in the aluminium plate that indicate the nozzle order, photo show the hotend with the Bowden plug fit in the first position. The other hotends are ordered in counterclockwise position as seen above the effector. The fins must point outward, or if you prefer, the heater cartridge near the outside perimeter: Once the Pico plate is installed underneath the effector, use the other aluminum plate to sandwitch the effector on the top side, bolt in place with socket screws. Don't forget to insert the wire into the proper holes of the plates. No explanation here. The firmware needs modifications to allow the cooling fan (see WIRING below) to start automatically when the hotend is (or are) in use. Marlin In Configuration_adv.h: change to Optional: Add the 500°C thermistor table (thermistortables.h): Use it for you Pico (Configuration.h): Add the same value for each 500°C thermistor used, ie TEMP_SENSOR_X. Repetier In Configuration.h: change to Same thing for EXT1 and EXT2 for each of your hotend that have a cooling fan. Optional: Add the 500°C thermistor table* (Configuration.h): replace defines *This table stops at 350°C, it's calculated from the official B3 Innovations table. You'll need to recalculate it (from Marlin above) to use full 500°C. This one is a good example of what values you should get to make it work in Repetier. Use it for you Pico (Configuration.h): Same thing for EXT1 and EXT2 for each of your hotend that have a 500°C thermistor. You need to install a new wire from the heater connector at the top of the Z tower (hotend 3) to the cooling fan. If you install multiple fans, they're connected in parallel at the effector connector. Enjoy your new Pico(s)!
