Fred is a character on Fitocracy's site that I created quickly to try out the MakerBot 3d printer that was being shown at a nearby workshop. The example photo shows the printed piece in the lowest resolution. The Fitocracy Fred mascot was created using a free 3d program called Blender. I've been using for several years and I discovered it actually allows output to a .stl file. The model is pretty simple. I started with a photo of the front and side. Then I just modelled it, using the photo as guides. It's made up of geometric shapes and maybe the most difficult thing to make was the barbell on the model's chest. Aside from that, it's cubes with rounded corners. INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO PRINT OUT When the pieces get imported into the MakerBot app, be sure to change the scale. I set mine to 600%. Turn the body and face (or head) upside down. It'll print better that way. The ears were a bit of a pain as they're so tiny. I used an Xacto knife to cut away the excess plastic. For the ears, I've made a tiny mark located on the head. That part needs to be cut out so the ear part can be added.
