If you have some Tinkertoy (or similar building toy) it's really easy to make a sturdy spool holder that will fit most spools. You need some Tinkertoy (or similar construction toy, something fairly sturdy) 4 x 7" rods (green in my set) 1 x 5.5" rod for single spool action (red in my set) [or 1 x 10" rod for dual spool action (orange in my set)] 2 x circle/wheel things (natural wood in my set) leg assemblies: The 7" rods are the legs, place 2 in each circle/wheel on the outer holes at 90º (one hole between them.) Connect the two leg assemblies by placing the 5.5" rod for a single spool (or the 10" rod for two spools) in the center hole of each circle. This is the spool axel. That's pretty much it. As you can see, it sits nicely on top of a Thing-o-matic. I've also added a .stl of a bracket designed to sit on the top edge of a Thing-o-matic and attach to the legs. Adding these makes it super-duper sturdy, but it works just fine without them. For added smoothness, whip up a set of these: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:82800
