My 3D printing class was asked to choose a project that was interesting to us. I chose portion control, and after doing some research, I decided on designing kitchen utensils that would control your portion size. -Nat from Yellow ChickensAll of my designs are based on the theory that if you take smaller bites, and therefore eat slower, you will get full faster and eat less over all. The idea of these utensils is to give you smaller bites or to limit the size that your bite can be. Fork: Design: The fork has a small hinge at the front of the handle. After it is printed, you must glue a piece of rubber band over the hinge so that it will go back after being bent. Idea: The idea for this fork is that if you try to pick something up that is too heavy (and therefore big), the joint will bend and the piece will fall off the fork. Knife: Design: The knife has two blades in front of the handle, one on the left and one on the right. The blades are serrated so that it is possible to cut tougher foods. Idea: With this knife, when you try to cut a large piece, it will be cut in two and you will eat the full piece more slowly because of this. Spoon With Hole: Design: This is just a regular spoon which has a small hole in the bottom. Idea: When you eat soup, by the time the spoon reaches your mouth, some soup has already drained out of the whole. Alternate uses: If you like your cereal without milk, you can use this spoon to drain the milk before eating each bite. CAUTION: Highly Drippy! False-Bottom Spoon: Design: This spoon is completely ordinary except that it is shallower than a normal spoon (more of the spoon is filled in than normal). Idea: The point of this spoon is just that you get less soup per bite. Straw: Design: This straw has two small flaps inside the main tube to restrict the flow of liquid. Idea: The idea for the straw is that the two flaps will restrict the flow of liquid, and will slow down the drinker.
