What you see in front of you here is a hybrid of a yacht and cargo ship. The design was made so that it can maximize the amount of weight it can carry. A full video is made based on this experiment. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jp74nWON5R0 The beauty of this model is that it can be 3d printed using relatively small desktop 3d printers. Being called the “Triple Float Yacht” you may think it must be assembled, ironically the design allows it to be printed all at once. No support material is required to have this boat printed. It was printed using a 3% infill. The design of the 2 smaller pontoons on the side and the large pontoon carrying the deck provides the boat with an outstanding ability to balance out itself. They stabilize the boat since it is stretched outwards covering more surface area but maintaining the weight concentration in the middle. The idea of this is to prevent the boat from rocking left to right when it is in more aggressive waters. The design of a door was cleverly made in the model without having the need to cut a hole in it. One piece of the side panels were made extremely thin so that the printer will not be able to print it out. This can be done by setting the settings of the printer as shown in the video. The printer will skip that area and leave a hole or in other words our door. Using this technique will prevent uneven surfaces when modeling. An extra millimeter of a cut will leave a dipped down surface in the large pontoon. The Triple Float Yacht is able to carry over double the weight of its own. In the video the numbers state that it can only hold 38 quarters, but if you examine carefully at the end some quarters were placed without the count meter actually moving. That means the boat was actually able to carry just over 40 Canadian quarters. This is my entry for the #MakeItFloat contest! This model can be 3d Printed using the following temperatures: Print Head (At least 200?C) This very model was printed in PLA filament More information can be seen in the video.
