Propane: considering having our tank buried... thoughts?

My wife was wondering if we should switch entirely to a heat pump to get rid of the tank. I suspect, though, that here in northern VA the winter temps probably get cold enough for long enough periods to justify propane heat simply from a cost perspective.
As we bat around ideas for our heating options, what things should we consider regarding burying a propane tank vs. leaving it above ground? Does burying a tank add significant risks or maintenance problems?
Our current system isn't in need of immediate repair or replacement but will probably need replacement or major maintenance in 5-10 years. We have time (I hope!) to think this through and plan ahead to do it right when the time comes.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts about heating options here in rural NoVA, and things to consider about burying a propane tank in particular.

Additionally, burying a tank can add maintenance complexities, such as periodic inspections and potential issues with underground utilities. It's important to weigh these factors against the benefits of burying the tank.
