Things I've Made

About me

At reactive: we love subtractive machining. We have been working with, building, and coming up with custom electronics for our in house CNC mill for three years. We can cut soft and hard woods, plastics and polymers, leaded brasses, and non structural aluminum plate.

Our 3D printing philosophy is this--good, fast, cheap: pick two. First thing--pricing is a little more expensive with us--this is because we have implemented the notorious 0.3mm print head. Hard to deal with? Yes, but the detail work we can do is 40% finer than the ubiquitous 0.5mm head. Note that we always discount the weight of a print by 20%, $5 minimum BTW.

As for good/fast/cheap. Our makeXYZ pricing represents our best prints: 0.3mm head with 0.1 mm layer height. We will do 0.2mm layers at 65c per cubic centimeter or 0.3mm layers for 40c per CC.

All of the prototyping stuff is great, but printing takes time. Printing at 0.1mm takes forever. Sometimes you have a big model and you want a mockup, or three, like yesterday.

Well, using our new laser cutter, we can take a model and slice it like a papaya out of plastic or ply, stack it together, and secure it. If you're looking for models larger than 7 inches, this is your best prototyping approach.

Have something even bigger? We can split a large model up into its skeletal structure and cut that skeleton out on the laser. Then everything goes together like one of those dinosaur kits you bought from the science museum when you were a kid--except, ya know, the wood won't split apart and the whole experience won't suck. Oh, and we'll to the putting togther. Unless you really want to. That's cool. It's really good way to figure out how something fits into a space without breaking the bank. Sculptors and bike designers, I'm looking at you.

If you need to talk through CAD design, we will be happy to consult with you for $19 an hour. Flat platework (aka 2.5D design) is $21 to have us work things out in CAD. All out 3D design starts at $29 per hour.

We look forward to seeing what you've got up your sleeve!
