This is a rideable unicycle that can be printed on the Makerbot Replicator 2 or the Makerbot Replicator 5th Generation. I made it to enter the #LightItUp Thingiverse Challenge. My initial plan was to have this printed and then add persistence of vision LED lights in the wheel (like this: http://goo.gl/Y62QZp), except with the Makerbot logo displayed. This has been my first experience with CAD/3D printing and I’ve been learning everything along the way, so I barely finished the CAD model in time! But if I win the 3D printer, I’ll be able to complete this project thoroughly and post videos of me riding the unicycle with Makerbot's logo glowing in the wheel. It would be like an investment for Makerbot. If anybody else is interested in printing this, please send me a message and I’ll help you out and teach you to unicycle if need be. Watch this video for a step by step visualization of the design: https://youtu.be/7nQ9h9WktBs Let me know if you have any questions. There are 24 different pieces that need to be printed, and everything can be printed in 6 print jobs on a Replicator 2. To put the pieces together you need to use 0.25” nuts, bolts, and washers. That’s what all the holes are for in the design. You also need to add 0.25” steel balls for bearings (at 0:59 in the video you can see where they are placed--where the frame is clamped to the axle). The only other additional hardware is a tire tube and tire rubber. All available at any hardware store and bike shop. The pedals do not use bearings. I used this concept: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:16736 A fitting hole needs to be drilled for the air valve. I’d also recommend having an orbit sander and lubrication with you during assembly. And patience! The wheel is 12 inches in diameter, which is on the small side, but it makes the persistence of vision lights work much better. Programming the Makerbot logo using a Spoke POV kit is my plan: goo.gl/Kx84Rg Keep in mind that if I win the printer, I will be a rolling advertisement for Makerbot when I ride this to town every night! :)
