This is a Minecraft chest designed in OpenSCAD during a build-off at the Orlando Science Center hosted by FamiLAB. We each chose our modeling softwares we knew best and attempted to build a chest in a few hours, while simultaneously discussing the concept of hackerspaces with members of the public. The chest measures about 50mm cubed, or twice that when a double chest, and was designed to print as one plate. I'd love to see your prints of this, especially if you paint it!If you want to customize your chest beyond basic scaling, you'll need the .scad files listed, and a copy of OpenSCAD. There is a module called chest() that generates the chest from three inputs. They are the length of the chest's body, front-to-back, the thickness of the walls, and whether or not it is a double chest. When a 1 is passed in as the third parameter, the chest is single, and if 2 it generates a double chest. Make sure to print under a relatively high resolution. Once printed, trim up any loose strands of extrusion along with the latch support and snap the two halves together. I recommend printing in a brown filament, if you can get it, and then painting the accents of the side panels and the latch.
