The term 'biomimetic' means something artificial that mimics nature. This 3D printed biomimetic craft mimics the flotation system of Gerridae, or the water strider. This bug floats on the surface of a body of water, using it's long, slender legs to take advantage of the surface tension on the water. Download, print, and share! Watch the video here: https://goo.gl/c5VRcI Also, watch this awesome video of natural water Striders: https://youtu.be/RphuMEUY3Og Version 2 -6/30/2015 Version 2 has added flotation due to the fact that I added "feet" to attach to the ends of the legs. These "feet" act like the miniscule hairs on natural strider's feet, enabling it to float on the surface tension. Be sure to print them and add them to your strider!Print with a light infill, as surface tension is not very strong. After printing both pieces, stick the legs into the slots on the body (you may need to glue them). Next, use silicone to secure the floats (print X4) to the legs. Enjoy your strider boat!
