This funky pencil holder, or small vase, was designed in Project Shapeshifter by Autodesk. Hexagons repeat along a wavy path, sharing edges while getting stretched, twisted, and distorted. One end is closed to form a thin, solid base. Full scale puts it at 150mm tall, nearing the Replicator 2 max of 155mm; 90mm OD at top; 48mm OD at bottom. Fairly sturdy and lightweight, it stands upright on the flat base or also on the wavy rim. Print two of them the same size and their wavy rims will interlock when facing each other. Being my first full design done in Shapeshifter I wasn't sure what to expect but I am really happy with it. I have designed a few more funky objects and will happily post a couple of the best ones if there is interest.Shapeshifter has a great export feature that prompts you for units and file type (.stl or .obj). Unfortunately it does not currently have the ability to Open Previous or Import design files. The good news is that just making it is easy: Scale: Scaling works fine; although the one scaled down print I did was with lower quality filament and it came out a tad hairy (stray strands inside some of the hexagons). I believe the filament is more to blame, but I don't know for sure.
