There are a few designs out there to keep the cooling fans from blowing air on your build platform (ABS Printing). Thus, decreasing warping when printing without a raft and adding a noticeable increase in print adhesion. There are also some designs for ABS fume extraction, but most require an additional fan and move a ton of air, which contradicts the above. I decided to take the best ideas from a few and mesh them into one, using the existing Replicator fans. This fits a Dual Extruder Replicator 1 diverts the air up away from the build platform and can be fitted with attachments. The attachment posted can have active carbon added to reduce ABS fumes. All parts were designed on Google SketchUp, slip into place (no screws or glue), are meant to fit snug and can be readily replaced or upgraded. The .thing files attached are the way (orientation) I printed the .stl files on my Replicator. Printed with MakerWare default medium profile settings (raft & support). Happy printing! Update: After some serious printing hours... zero abs fumes, consistent print temps and much better print adhesion vs. normal printing. Update: Some new pictures of how the active carbon was used, basically an active carbon sandwich. Filter, carbon, filter. New attachments in the works. Update: v4 has side covers that can be opened for cooling. I found that opening the cover on the fan side that is printing (when using one extruder) works very well at both cooling and fume extraction. As the non-printing fan kicks off closer to build time and shuts off first after build completion.
