First...nods to Skimbal for the original design and files. Ok...I printed the Bathtub U-boat and loved it. Looked great and once painted looked even better. It's on the wall by my desk at work and I got lot's of compliments. What could make it cooler??? I know...what if I scaled it 200% ??? That's a sub almost 6 feet long and almost 11" around with the conning tower. I haven't finished mine..I've spent 20 or so hours scaling, cutting, reformatting, and printing test parts. I attached a picture with the first 5 pieces glued together (I also already printed the fattest middle hull section...which is beside the glued hull pieces). Once I get the hull done I'll take the add on pack (deck guns, periscopes, etc) and scale them up too.... Ok...let me say this Makerware CHOKES on this when using the standard slicer....error..error..error... So I used Skenforge (default) to slice these...it takes a Loooooong time though..usually an hour each. There were printed in PLA on a Makerbot Replicator 2. Then the printing takes an average of 9 hours for each part of the hull and there's 14 pieces to the hull...so you're looking at, realistically, close to 140 hours to print. Pretty sure the Skeinforge defaults are (10% fill, 2 walls, and .27 layer height)...NO raft.
