
Simple small model rocket designed for single flight using an Estes "C" size model rocket engine and launch system. Prints as one complete object.See version 2 ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:92293 ) Printed using default "medium" quality on MakerWare, but with 100% fill. (Actually, fill doesn't matter, as virtually all the rocket components are only as thick as the 2 shells and "fill" is not used....with exception of the flange inside the rocket which is intended to keep the engine from moving forward inside the cowling.) On my printer, the fins tended to curl; therefore, helper disks are recommended (see figure). For the yellow PLA (which does not work as well as my green) I needed to reduce the max print speed to 50mm/s (to stop "stringing"). Print time at 50mm/s is 1:21. This enging mount is designed with two spring hooks which move out of the way to put the engine in place and spring back to lock the engine in place. These start out as tiny independent squares...which might cause problems, especially if the platform distance/level is not optimal! (I printed on 3M masking tape which seems to help the plastic adhere.) The nose cone is designed with a weak ring about half way between the very top and the top of the engine (see drawings). The intent is to allow the rocket to blow apart during the final stage when, for a typical model rocket, the nosecone and parachute would otherwise be deployed. This is designed for a "C" sized engine (18mm o.d.). I may post an adapter to fit the smaller "A" engines. Intended to be launched from a standard Estes launch pad. Haven't tested it yet, though. Including the engine, this rocket is ~40 grams. Empty, te rocket is just under 20g.
