The STL file was made with PhotoToMesh V6 and a Digital Elevation Model bumpmap of Mars. You can see the biggest mountain of Mars, Olympus Mons, its three close neighbours, Tharsis Montes, and the deep valley Vallis Marineris. If you have a higher quality printer than I do then you may be able to see and recognise other landmarks. I have exagerated the elevation bump mapping. The tallest mountain should be 0.33mm on a 100mm sphere, I've made it 4mm!I printed it at only 100mm diameter and 0.2mm layer thickess. It would probably look better at 200mm diameter and 0.1mm layer thickness. There is a hole at the northern pole because that was a way to trick the XYZWare into understanding that this is a hollow sphere. (I could not upload the hi-res 98MB STL file for some reason, so I uploaded a lower res 56MB file. Let me know if you want the higher res version, contact help at ransen.com.)
A reproduction of the Mars globe, complete with valleys, plains, and mountains.
