The iconic photograph of the planet Earth was taken by the Voyager-1 spacecraft at the edge of the solar system from a record distance of 6 billion kilometers. Earth is clearly visible in the photograph as a fractional blue pixel against the vastness of space. NASA took the image at the request of Carl Sagan (American astronomer, astrophysicist, cosmologist...the man).
