CHIJMES, now a major venue for retail, food and beverage and entertainment in Singapore, was originally known as the Convent of the Holy Infant Jesus (CHIJ) Convent, a premier girls’ school established in 1854 by an order of French Catholic nuns. CHIJMES won a Merit Award in the UNSECO Asia Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation in 2002.
