I used an old Mini wheel hub from ebay (£12), 18mm plywood for the base and top table (about £25) and 11mm mdf for the centre "pulley" part of the table and its guide (about £14) The 12v DC motor was something I had in the shed, I bought the speed controller from ebay (£3) and connect it to my 3D printer power supply. I have adapted various cogs from Thingiverse to create the gear train as nothing I could find would work perfectly for me. The design makes it easy to change the final 35tooth GT2 drive cog for something of your own design. The worm is a single tooth helical gear. The tooth shape of the gear cog is concave to allow a more intimate contact. The worm cog is connected onto the motor drive shaft. The gear cog and final 35tooth drive are on a 10mm bolt. with washers providing a levelling mechanism. The 35tooth cog is glued onto the GT2 support. Which in turn simply drops into the involute cog. All of the centre holes for the cogs need to be customised for your own purposes. The drive cog can drive the turntable with either a 2m length of GT2 drive belt (sewn together) or a piece of rubber inner tube or even a length of exercise latex tied together. I have used all three, and once you get the tension correct they all seem to work perfectly.
