
This is the long awaited upgrade to the central gimbal of the Kontinuum Glide MKI: ( http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:36348 ). For those of you who made a copy of the MKI, and were kind of dissapointed by the sucky panning, this solves the panning issues completely, using a single bearing with a central diameter of 25mm instead of the 6 small bearings previously used. Keep in mind that this is still just a patch to get the MKI prototype working properly. All in all it's not the most elegant solution, and the stl's are kind of rough around the edges. As you can see in the photo my print came out less than perfect. There's still all sorts of issues, which generally have to be solved manually (with a stanley knife), but it WORKS! In one smallish print, It turns the MKI from a curious but promising prototype, and into a serious tool for the DSLR videographer. Hope you enjoy! INSTRUCTIONS (kind of): To support the new bearing I have substituted the central printed piece of the original design for 4 new printed pieces, while recycling everything else. The top and bottom "roller support discs" are still used, as are the top and bottom "main supports", but you WILL need to take a knife to the "main supports" and cut down the outer edge completely for everything to fit together. I omitted the 6 central springs this time, and for now it seems to work just as well. You can use them or not, as you prefer. So first print out the new pieces. I used: ABS 3mm layer height 60% honeycomb infill As before, the pieces are slid onto the tube one by one, and the new bearing is sandwiched in the middle. The bearing is held in place on the tube by the old pieces ("roller supports" etc) and connected to the outer gimbal by the new pieces, which are held together with two 20mm M4 screws. The two small blocks included in this print, are the new felt bearing insets. Slide them into the recess in the sandwiched pieces before you tighten the screws. You might have to drill a new set of holes in your 50mm aluminium tube, as the distance between holes is now a bit smaller. I had a few holes in mine already, and managed to make it fit without drilling. The bearing I'm using is an "IBB 6805RS" Measurements are: Inner diameter: 25mm Outer diameter: 37mm Thickness: 7mm As far as I can gather these are normally used in bicycles. They are not too expensive (definitely no more so than 6 of the other ones), and I found plenty of resellers online. I will definitely be using them in the MKII And that's all the instructions you'll get for this upgrade. If you managed to put together the Kontinuum Glide MKI, then you should be able to figure out the upgrade.
